We are looking for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer (Building Services) to join a large scale multidisciplinary engineering consultancy.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer looking to take a lead role on a range of exciting, challenging, and high quality notable projects in sectors such as Power, Custodial, Education, Aviation, Nuclear, Defence, Life Sciences, and more. The business are modern, flexible, diverse, and have low staff turnover.

The Role

You will take technical responsibility for mechanical building services design, working from concept through to detailed design and delivery. You’ll work closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams, provide technical leadership, and support the development of junior engineers.

  • Leading mechanical design across a range of building services projects.
  • Designing HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, and domestic water systems.
  • Producing and reviewing calculations, specifications, drawings, and reports.
  • Coordinating designs with architectural, structural, and electrical disciplines.
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to engineers and technicians.
  • Attending client and design team meetings and providing technical advice.
  • Ensuring designs meet relevant UK standards, regulations, and client requirements.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in mechanical building services design.
  • Previous experience at Senior or Principal Engineer level, or demonstrated technical leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC and mechanical building services systems.
  • Experience delivering projects through concept, detailed design, and construction stages.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP.
  • Good understanding of relevant UK standards, regulations, and industry guidance.
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills.
  • CEng or working towards chartership is desirable.
