Principal Mechanical Engineer - Building Services

Belcan Workforce Solutions is recruiting for a Principal Mechanical Engineer on a permanent basis to join a highly regarded engineering team in Motherwell. This is an exciting opportunity to work across diverse, technically challenging projects within sectors such as life sciences, nuclear, defence and industrial. You’ll play a key leadership role, shaping high-quality mechanical building services solutions while supporting the continued growth of a dynamic Scotland-based team.

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services, ensuring compliance with current regulations, standards and client requirements. You will manage project performance across time, cost, quality and resource allocation, while championing best practice and driving quality assurance within your team. A strong focus on client engagement is essential, with responsibility for building and maintaining long-term relationships that support repeat business and project success.

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will bring significant experience in mechanical building services design, along with a collaborative leadership style and a passion for developing engineers and technicians. You will be Chartered (or working towards) and confident in delivering projects or managing packages on large-scale developments. This is a fantastic opportunity to advance your career within a supportive, forward-thinking environment.

Key requirements:

  • Chartered Member of CIBSE (or working towards)
  • Proven experience delivering mechanical building services projects
  • Expert knowledge of HVAC and Public Health systems design
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Navisworks and NBS Create/Chorus

Additional desirable skills:

  • Experience across multiple sectors and multidisciplinary projects
  • Familiarity with IES Thermal Modelling, AutoCAD and Revit
