Working across major water and wastewater programmes, we're delivering innovative engineering solutions that improve resilience, support sustainability and create lasting value for our clients and the communities they serve.

We're looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Birmingham, Redditch, Derby or Shrewsbury. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of technically challenging projects while developing your leadership within one of the UK's leading multidisciplinary consultancies.

Working With Us, You'll Have The Opportunity To

  • Lead the delivery of complex mechanical engineering solutions across nationally significant water and wastewater projects.
  • Take ownership of technical delivery from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design, construction support and commissioning.
  • Mentor and develop engineers while helping drive technical excellence across the Mechanical Engineering team.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Support the continued growth and success of our Midlands Mechanical Engineering capability.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you'll lead the technical delivery of mechanical engineering projects across a diverse portfolio of water and wastewater infrastructure schemes, ensuring high-quality engineering solutions throughout every stage of the project lifecycle.

You Will

  • Lead mechanical engineering design across water and wastewater treatment works, pumping stations and associated infrastructure.
  • Deliver projects from feasibility and concept design through to detailed design, construction support and commissioning.
  • Produce and review technical calculations, specifications, reports and engineering documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring quality and consistency throughout delivery.
  • Mentor and support engineers, helping develop technical capability across the team.
  • Collaborate closely with clients, Project Managers, contractors and supply chain partners to deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Contribute to business development, framework delivery and continuous improvement initiatives.

YOUR IMPACT

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, your expertise will directly influence the successful delivery of major water infrastructure programmes while supporting the continued growth of our Mechanical Engineering capability.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
