Job Description
About the Role
The UK water sector is entering a transformative phase of investment and renewal. Egis is accelerating its growth in the UK Water sector and is establishing a high-performing mechanical engineering team to shape its next phase.
We seek professionals who want to contribute meaningfully to major UK water and wastewater programmes. Collaborating within a multidisciplinary environment, you will deliver ambitious, environmentally responsible and innovative treatment solutions across key projects.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Project Coordination
- Lead mechanical design across water/wastewater projects throughout the design lifecycle
- Act as mechanical technical lead, overseeing design strategy, critical decisions, interfaces and risk management
- Lead CEng/IEng oversight of calculations, specifications, datasheets, P&IDs, layouts, schedules, drawings, and supplier/contractor submissions
- Scope and design pumps, pipework, valves, tanks, lifting systems, packaged plant, treatment equipment and connected process systems
Specialised Technical & Process Expertise
- Lead mechanical contributions to optioneering, value engineering, design reviews, HAZOP/SWIFT assessments, constructability checks, maintainability reviews and commissioning
- Advocate lean and digitally enabled delivery via standardised workflows, BIM/3D coordination, hydraulic modelling, automated designs and reusable templates
- Provide technical reassurance and assist project managers in risk assessment, scope management, resourcing, scheduling and change control

**Team Development **
- Mentor and manage mechanical teams, support recruitment, professional development and chartership progression
External & Client Engagement
- Contribute to bid writing, client communications, opportunity identification and capability growth
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- BEng/MEng (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
- Chartered (CEng) or Incorporated (IEng) Engineer status with a relevant professional institution (e.g., IMechE)
- Typically 8–10+ years’ relevant experience in mechanical system design *(particularly relevant backgrounds in water, wastewater or biosolids/sector-specific roles)
- Proven ability to lead projects as a mechanical discipline or senior technical lead, coordinating multidisciplinary interfaces
- Expertise in:
- Water/wastewater/BIOSOLIDS/WATER REUSE systems (e.g., pumps, pipework, valves, hydraulics, layouts, packaged plant)
- UK sector standards (e.g., CDM 2015 legislation, regulatory guidance, safety-by-design)
- Demonstrated proficiency in:
- Multidisciplinary coordination (PM/EICA, civil/structural, MEP, construction, operations)
- Digital capabilities (modelling, automation, BIM, data-driven design)
- Client-facing communication skills (technical workshops, reviews, design deliberations)
- Experience mentoring or managing engineers and advancing technical capability
Desirable Skills
- Deep-specific wastewater treatment expertise (e.g., pumping stations, chemical dosing, odour control, energy recovery)
- Familiarity with AMP 8, WINEP, SRO, design & build, framework or contractor-led project models
- Developing mechanical design standards, calculation tools, data workbench and digital workflows
- Experience in:
- Bid process contributions (recruitment, resource planning, technical proposals, client presentations)
- Graphical.context sumbridge to new technical knowledge or market segments
