Job Title: Principal Medical Writer

We're partnering with an independent medical communications agency to appoint a Principal Medical Writer to join its Scientific Services team. This opportunity is suited to an established Principal Medical Writer or an exceptional Senior Medical Writer already operating at Principal level, looking to take on greater scientific leadership while remaining hands-on with high-quality medical communications.

Working across a varied portfolio of client accounts, you'll lead the development of scientific content, build trusted client relationships and play a key role in shaping strategic communications programmes, while supporting and developing more junior members of the team.

The role

As Principal Medical Writer, you'll act as the scientific lead across assigned accounts, taking ownership of the quality, accuracy and strategic direction of scientific deliverables.

You'll work across a broad range of medical communications projects, interpreting complex scientific data and translating it into engaging, audience-appropriate content for healthcare professionals.

Alongside your writing responsibilities, you'll review the work of colleagues, mentor junior writers and work closely with client services and scientific leadership teams to ensure projects are delivered to the highest standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the development of high-quality scientific content across a broad range of medical communications projects.
  • Act as the lead scientific writer across assigned accounts, building trusted relationships with clients and external experts.
  • Interpret complex clinical data and develop clear, accurate and engaging communications for healthcare professional audiences.
  • Review and quality check scientific materials, ensuring editorial excellence, scientific accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and constructive feedback to junior writers, supporting their ongoing development.
  • Contribute to scientific and account strategy, helping shape communications programmes and identify opportunities for account growth.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.
  • Support proposal development and contribute scientific expertise to new business opportunities where appropriate.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
