The Principal Engineers
The Principal Engineers are the primary contact between us and the customer in as much as they provide assurance to the customer that we are capable of providing a solution to their business problem. Whilst the Account Manager has a key role, the Principal Engineer is the person that the customer sees providing designs that comprehensively address the needs and, perhaps most crucially, responding to change and issues calmly and coherently.
Our Principal Engineers deliver data strategy work, engaging with the customer to understand their data maturity, defining a road map and supporting business case creation. A Principal Engineer is expected to support a team of engineers delivering a project, often delegating to and supporting a Lead Engineer with the full life cycle delivery.
Responsibilities
A Principal Engineer will have a broad awareness relative to their field but within the context of our business. They will have:
- Recognised industry expertise, with the ability to apply and share this knowledge.
- Proven experience in a consultancy environment at a similar level, or with readiness to step up to this level.
- Confidence and experience in public speaking, with an interest in contributing to the wider data community.
- Project or programme management experience, with formal accreditations (Agile, Prince2 Practitioner) desirable but not required.
- Product vendor certification where it exists.
- A genuine passion for technology, with an awareness of trends and best practice in their field.
- Proactive in ensuring that they are aware of changes in their field.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
