Principal Microsoft Security Consultant
£90,000 – £110,000 | UK Remote | Permanent | Occasional Client Travel
I'm partnering with an exciting UK technology consultancy to find a Principal Microsoft Security Consultant who can take genuine ownership of complex Microsoft security engagements.
This is a senior, hands-on consulting role, not a governance only position and not a traditional SOC analyst role. You’ll work alongside clients from initial discovery and architecture through to implementation, optimisation and complex third-line escalation. Working in a Consultancy capacity.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead client discovery sessions, technical assessments and architecture workshops.
- Design and deliver Microsoft Sentinel solutions covering:
- KQL
- Detection engineering and analytics rules
- Data connectors and onboarding
- Workbooks and hunting queries
- Automation rules
- Logic App playbooks
- Implement and optimise Microsoft Defender XDR, including:
- Defender for Endpoint
- Defender for Identity
- Defender for Office 365
- Defender for Cloud
- Deliver Defender for Cloud Apps / MCAS, including Cloud Discovery, app connectors, access/session controls, SSPM and app governance.
- Work across Microsoft Purview, including information protection, sensitivity labels, DLP, data lifecycle, eDiscovery and insider risk.
- Apply Entra ID, Conditional Access, identity protection and privileged access within wider security architectures.
- Translate client requirements into roadmaps, HLDs, LLDs, implementation plans and statements of work.
- Build integrations and security data workflows using APIs, automation and Microsoft-native services.
- Support pre-sales, proposals and technical solution presentations.
- Act as a senior escalation point for complex security and platform issues.
- Create reusable architectures, standards and runbooks while mentoring consultants and engineers.

What we’re looking for
- Strong evidence that you’ve personally designed and delivered complex Microsoft security solutions rather than solely administering or governing them.
- Deep, hands on Microsoft Sentinel experience.
- Practical Defender XDR implementation experience.
- Meaningful Defender for Cloud Apps / MCAS delivery experience.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Purview, ideally information protection and/or DLP.
- Strong Entra ID and Conditional Access knowledge.
- Consultancy, MSP, MSSP or professional-services experience.
- Experience leading client discovery and producing high-quality technical documentation.
- Confidence working with regulated and/or mission-critical environments.
- Ability to own difficult technical escalations and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Additional experience that would stand out
- Databricks, Spark, Azure Data Lake or security data-platform experience.
- Python, PowerShell, REST APIs or infrastructure-as-code.
- Azure Lighthouse or multi-tenant managed security.
- Healthcare, public-sector or other regulated-industry experience.
- Microsoft security certifications, CISSP or equivalent.
