Job Description
Anticipated Contract End Date/Length: February 22, 2028
Work Setup: Remote – Occasional travel may be required for workshops or meetings, but regular travel is unlikely.
Clearance Required: Ministry of Justice SC must be obtainable
Our client in the Information Technology and Services industry is looking for a Principal Oracle DBA to join the DBA team supporting the Legal Aid Agency, part of the Ministry of Justice. The organisation is on a mission to modernise, maintain, and improve digital services for the Legal Aid Agency. The Principal DBA will provide guidance and support to Lead and Senior DBAs while helping drive the modernisation of the team toward true DevOps.
The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team, placing emphasis on automation of operational tasks, improved monitoring and alerting, while using traditional operations experience to ensure underlying databases remain stable, secure, and capable of supporting change at the speed of business. Oracle databases are hosted in AWS and underpin applications built with several Oracle products, mainly Oracle E-Business Suite, SOA, Portal, IAM, WebLogic, OHS, and APEX.
What you will do:
- Lead Oracle database administration and modernisation activities within a multidisciplinary DBA team.
- Guide and support Senior DBAs across database administration, troubleshooting, and operational activities.
- Drive the adoption of true DevOps practices across DBA operations.
- Automate operational and administrative database tasks through scripting and infrastructure-as-code approaches.
- Establish and maintain continuous delivery and deployment pipelines.
- Upgrade and migrate PL/SQL-based applications.
- Administer and maintain Oracle databases across Unix/Linux environments.
- Perform Oracle SQL tuning using execution plans, indexes, hints, and knowledge of legacy optimiser behaviour.
- Design and maintain schemas and data models within a legacy ERP context.
- Perform Oracle database installation, patching, and upgrades.
- Manage RMAN and Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) activities.
- Support Oracle E-Business Suite R12 environments.
- Administer and troubleshoot SOA, WebLogic, Portal, and IAM environments.
- Manage EBS concurrent managers.
- Configure WebLogic clustering and perform JVM tuning.
- Create and utilise AWS CloudFormation templates to automate the creation of AWS images.
- Apply Git and version-control practices within database development and delivery.
- Implement improved database monitoring and alerting capabilities.
- Collaborate within Agile product delivery teams.
- Mentor, coach, and transfer technical knowledge to DBA team members.
- Promote continuous improvement, effective troubleshooting, and operational stability.

Qualifications
- Bring expert experience working with AWS Cloud services, including EC2, RDS, Lambda, and S3.
- Possess expert experience setting up and maintaining continuous delivery and deployment pipelines.
- Bring expert experience upgrading and migrating PL/SQL-based applications.
- Possess strong experience with Oracle Database versions 10g, 11g, and 12c on Unix/Linux.
- Bring expert experience in Oracle SQL tuning, including execution plans, indexes, hints, and legacy optimiser quirks.
- Possess expert experience with schema design and data modelling in a legacy ERP context.
- Have experience with Oracle database installation, patching, and upgrades.
- Bring practitioner-level experience working with RMAN and OEM.
- Possess expert experience working with Oracle E-Business Suite R12.
- Bring expert experience working with SOA, WebLogic, Portal, and IAM.
- Possess expert experience with EBS concurrent managers.
- Bring experience with WebLogic clustering and JVM tuning.
- Have experience automating administrative tasks through scripting.
- Possess practitioner-level knowledge of Git.
- Bring the ability to create and utilise AWS CloudFormation templates to automate the creation of AWS images.
- Possess practitioner-level experience working within Agile product delivery teams.
- Demonstrate excellent mentoring, coaching, and skills transfer capabilities.
- Bring strong troubleshooting skills and a mindset of continuous improvement.
- Be an adaptable team player with a passion for learning and problem-solving.
- Possess experience with database version control tools such as Flyway or similar, desirable.
- Be able to obtain Ministry of Justice SC Clearance.
