Altrad Recruitment for Principal Piping Engineer

Altrad are currently recruiting for an experienced Principal Piping Engineer to join the team on a contract basis for approximately 6-9 months.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience within the oil & gas and petrochemical industry and will play a key role in delivering engineering excellence through technical leadership, discipline expertise, and support to engineering teams.

Key Deliverables

  • Execute assigned piping engineering scopes of work in accordance with project requirements.
  • Support and supervise delegated engineering tasks within the piping team.
  • Provide piping discipline expertise and technical guidance to the wider business.
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers as delegated.
  • Manage and supervise direct reports where applicable.
  • Adhere to discipline-specific procedures and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain technical competence in accordance with industry standards and pursue continuous professional development.
  • Provide piping engineering support throughout all project phases.
  • Check and approve piping design and engineering documentation.
  • Review and approve Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) technical files.
  • Apply client standards for pipework design and procurement.
  • Select appropriate piping materials for specific service applications.
  • Prepare and review specifications for piping materials, manual valves, pipe fittings, and flanges.
  • Complete technical evaluations of piping materials, fittings, and associated equipment.
  • Review and approve vendor documentation and certification.
  • Review PDMS/E3D models for piping design, plant layout, and constructability.
  • Carry out model reviews for clash detection and resolution.
  • Review dimensional control survey data to support clash checking and installation activities.

  • Extensive experience as a Principal or Senior Piping Engineer within the oil & gas and petrochemical industry.
  • Demonstrable experience in piping design, engineering, and material specification.
  • Strong knowledge of client standards relating to pipework design and procurement.
  • Experience reviewing and approving PED technical files.
  • Proficient in the review of PDMS and/or AVEVA E3D models.
  • Experience conducting technical evaluations of piping materials, fittings, valves, and vendor documentation.
  • Strong understanding of piping material selection for a range of process applications.
  • Experience leading engineering teams, supervising engineers, and mentoring junior personnel.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership is desirable.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
