The Principal Planning Engineer will play a key role in supporting a diverse portfolio of engineering and infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on construction planning and scheduling during the early design and construction stages.
This is an opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers, project teams, clients and stakeholders, helping to turn complex project requirements into realistic, well-structured and deliverable programmes.
The role
As a Principal Construction Planner, you will provide specialist planning expertise across complex engineering and infrastructure projects. The role would suit someone who combines strong analytical and planning skills with excellent communication and a collaborative, delivery-focused approach.
Duties

- Applying construction planning expertise across the design, construction and delivery stages of complex infrastructure and engineering projects.
- Reviewing project progress, maintaining programmes and analysing programme data to forecast time and cost outcomes.
- Identifying programme risks, constraints and interfaces, and working with project teams to develop practical mitigation strategies.
- Preparing clear and insightful constructability, programme and progress reports for project teams, clients and stakeholders.
- Developing phasing and sequencing strategies that support efficient and realistic project delivery.
- Creating visual planning tools and programme outputs to communicate complex sequencing, interfaces and constraints clearly.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
