Senior Platform Engineer

Location: Caerphilly
Salary: £60,000 per annum

About the Role

This role is responsible for building and running platform infrastructure in a private cloud environment. This is not a public cloud role. It suits engineers who want to keep using on-premise infrastructure skills, including virtualisation and enterprise backup technologies, rather than move fully into public cloud. The infrastructure supports large public sector clients, so security standards are strict and must be followed closely. You will own core platform components. You will work to improve system uptime and speed up how quickly new code can be released.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Architecture & Operations

  • Build and run CI/CD pipelines.
  • Build and run container orchestration systems.
  • Build and run monitoring and logging systems.
  • Build and run service mesh.
  • Manage virtualisation infrastructure using VMware and/or Hyper-V.
  • Manage backup and disaster recovery using Veeam.
  • Use Infrastructure as Code to automate environments.
  • Research and add new platform tools when needed.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
