Principal Process Safety Consultant

Office: London or Manchester (Hybrid working)
Role: full-time, permanent.

CPC Systems is a specialist systems engineering, safety and integration consultancy supporting some of the world's most complex infrastructure, energy and transportation projects. As we continue to expand our process safety, simulation and modelling capabilities, we are seeking an experienced Principal Process Safety Consultant to play a leading role in developing and delivering our process safety offering across a range of established and emerging industries e.g. alternative fuels, battery systems, oil and gas, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, and other energy sectors.

As a senior technical leader, you will provide specialist process safety expertise, contribute to business growth and support the delivery of complex engineering and safety studies for high-hazard environments.

As a Principal Process Safety Consultant, you will:

  • Lead the technical delivery of process safety and risk management projects across multiple sectors.
  • Lead the commercial and project management aspects of consultancy commissions, ensuring successful delivery against scope, programme, quality and budget requirements.
  • Lead business development activities, bid preparation and client relationship management.
  • Develop and expand CPC's process safety service offering in line with business growth objectives.
  • Deliver and champion high standards of technical quality, governance and client-focused delivery, ensuring reports, presentations and other project deliverables are clear, accurate and fit for purpose.
  • Mentor and develop junior consultants and engineers.
  • Drive innovation through the application of emerging technologies, digital solutions and artificial intelligence, developing new approaches that enhance technical delivery, improve efficiency and deliver greater value to clients.

What We're Looking For

We are interested in speaking with individuals currently operating at Principal Engineer, Principal Consultant or Senior Technical Lead level.

You are likely to have:

  • A degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or a related engineering/scientific discipline.
  • Significant experience in Process Safety Engineering within a high-hazard industry.
  • Experience delivering safety studies across sectors such as alternative fuels, battery systems, oil and gas, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, and other energy sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of quantitative / qualitative risk assessment techniques, such as:
    • HAZID / HAZOP / LOPA / SIL Assessments
    • ETA / FTA / FMECA / Bowtie Analysis
    • QRA / Consequence Modelling / CFD Studies
    • COMAH, DSEAR, ATEX and Hazardous Areas Classification
  • Experience contributing to or leading safety case development and regulatory submissions.
  • Knowledge of major hazard regulations and industry standards.
  • Excellent report writing and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and lead technical workstreams.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in process modelling or simulation software e.g. Phast, EFFECTS, FRED, FLACS CFD, ANSYS CFD, in:Flux, KFX, or FDS.
  • Chartered Engineer status.
  • Previous consultancy experience.
  • Business development and client-facing leadership experience.
  • Experience applying emerging technologies, digital engineering tools and artificial intelligence to develop innovative solutions.
