Overview

We have an excellent new opportunity for a Principal Engineer to join the growing Pragmatic Semiconductor team in Cambridge. Reporting to the Director of Validation and Characterisation and forming a key part of our Engineering function, you will act as a technical leader for product-level characterisation activities: owning the product characterisation strategy, translating product requirements and technical risks into proportionate test coverage, analysis and reporting. You will take on line management of a small team of Engineers who are focused on the development of automated, volume test solutions as well as undertaking technical work yourself.

Working with colleagues from the adjacent Device and IC Validation teams, you will lead the development, execution and optimisation of wafer-level Characterisation test cases in a Production Test (ATE) environment and will present Characterisation data to project stakeholders.

You will be working extensively with cross-business stakeholders from project inception and planning to transfer to production and beyond to ensure characterisation findings inform design improvements, production-test strategy, limit setting and product-release decisions. We are therefore looking for candidates who can demonstrate experience of working successfully in cross-functional environments.

We are looking for candidates with deep RF expertise and strong data analysis skills using large datasets, as well as experience of wafer-level test.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a thriving team during an exciting scale-up period, while playing a genuinely key role in the company's success. Visa sponsorship and relocation assistance will be available for the right candidate, if required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
