Principal Product Manager, Leads

As our next Principal Product Manager, Leads, you'll play a key role in helping us build the UK's go-to home improvement marketplace. Millions of homeowners come to Checkatrade to find a tradesperson they can trust, and hundreds of thousands of trades rely on us to win great work. Matching the two is the core of what we do, and trades paying for those leads is our biggest business line. You'll own that product end-to-end: how we match homeowners to the right trades, how we price and package what we offer, and how we grow the Opportunity Board, our fast-growing self-serve marketplace. It's a rare mix of product craft and real commercial ownership, and you'll set the vision, define what great looks like, and ship it.

Forget long lists, here’s what you’ll actually spend your time on:

  • Own the leads marketplace end-to-end: Matching, Monetisation and the Opportunity Board, with a clear vision for how they work together.
  • Grow the marketplace commercially, making smart trade-offs between growth, value to trades and long-term marketplace health.
  • Make matching smarter so the right job reaches the right trade, working closely with Data Science.
  • Evolve how we price and package leads, using dynamic pricing to unlock new value.
  • Scale the Opportunity Board into a major way trades win work.
  • Set and hold the quality bar for a world-class two-sided marketplace, building alignment and earning trust across Product, Data Science, Engineering and our commercial teams through delivery.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

It’s not about ticking every box. It’s about turning up curious, ready to crack on. You’ll do well here if you bring:

  • Extensive experience in senior product roles, owning a revenue-generating or marketplace product at scale.
  • Marketplace depth: you understand liquidity, supply and demand, matching and distribution.
  • Commercial and pricing fluency, comfortable with dynamic pricing, packaging and subscription/pay-as-you-go economics, backed by strong analytical instincts and a habit of using data and experimentation to decide.
  • A track record of shipping: you drive delivery, remove blockers and move fast without dropping quality, with the vision and ambition to see where a marketplace should go and bring people with you.

We believe great work deserves great rewards. Here’s just a taste:

  • Competitive salary + annual bonus
  • Employee Share Programme
  • Health, well-being and learning support
  • Gym membership, Smart Tech Scheme and Cycle Scheme
  • Birthday/Special day leave
  • Buy & sell holiday scheme
  • 1 week’s paid charity leave and much more!
