Principal Project Manager

Location: North Hampshire Salary: £65,000 - £75,000

I'm currently recruiting on behalf of an innovative engineering business within the defence sector that is looking to appoint an experienced Principal Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of complex engineering programmes.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Manager who enjoys taking ownership of high-value projects, managing key customer relationships and working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver technically challenging solutions.

The Role

As Principal Project Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the full lifecycle delivery of complex defence engineering projects.
  • Leading multidisciplinary project teams to ensure successful programme execution.
  • Managing project schedules, budgets, forecasts and overall financial performance.
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for customers, building and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Identifying, managing and mitigating project risks.
  • Coordinating engineering, manufacturing, procurement and supply chain activities.
  • Managing subcontractors and external partners to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
  • Preparing and presenting regular project progress reports to senior stakeholders.
  • Supporting bid activities and identifying opportunities for future business growth.
  • Driving continuous improvement across project management processes.

About You

To be considered, you'll ideally have:

  • Proven Project Management experience within the defence engineering sector.
  • Experience delivering complex engineering or manufacturing programmes.
  • Strong commercial awareness and experience managing project finances.
  • Excellent stakeholder and customer management skills.
  • Experience leading cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Strong planning and scheduling experience using Microsoft Project.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and leadership skills.
  • An engineering or technical qualification (Degree, HND, HNC or equivalent).

Desirable

  • APMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent Project Management qualification.
  • Experience working with UK MoD programmes.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems.
  • Experience using MRP or ERP systems.
  • Understanding of project risk management.
  • Professional registration (EngTech, IEng or equivalent).
