Principal QA Automation Engineer - FinTech - AI
An exciting opportunity has opened for a Principal QA Automation Engineer to join a rapidly growing Payments FinTech. We are looking for a highly technical, hands-on individual contributor who can build and own the automation and quality engineering capability across a complex payments platform. This role is for someone who can go beyond traditional test automation and build automation frameworks, establish meaningful quality metrics, using AI to transform testing and developing and testing AI-powered QA agents.
You will:
- Build the QA automation strategy and technical capability across the payments platform.
- Design and develop scalable automation frameworks for API, integration, contract, and end-to-end testing.
- Build automation from the ground up using technologies such as Java/JVM, Golang, REST Assured, Postman/Newman, and internal tooling.
- Own the quality and automation metrics across the platform, defining what should be measured and how those metrics are used to improve engineering quality.
- Establish meaningful measures around automation coverage, defect trends, test effectiveness, reliability, flakiness, execution performance, and release quality.
- Build automated quality gates and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines.
- Identify opportunities to use AI and LLMs to improve the QA lifecycle, from test generation and test analysis through to defect detection and investigation.
- Design, build, and test AI-powered QA agents capable of performing testing, analyzing results, identifying anomalies, and supporting engineering teams.
- Establish approaches for testing AI agents, including accuracy, reliability, robustness, hallucination, regression, and behavioural testing.
- Build frameworks and tooling that allow AI-driven testing capabilities to be repeatable, measurable, and production-ready.
- Work closely with engineers to improve testability, observability, and quality at source.
- Establish engineering standards for automation code, framework design, test data, CI/CD, and quality reporting.
- Provide technical leadership through design reviews, code reviews, and mentoring, while remaining a hands-on individual contributor.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
