Principal Quality Test Engineer (Hardware)
Department: Engineering Employment Type: Permanent – Full Time Location: Bristol, UK Reporting To: Jake Reynolds Compensation: £75,000 – £95,000 per year
About the Role
We're constructing the UK's next-generation engineering powerhouse, delivering critical technologies that enhance national security and resilience.
Our expertise combines sensing, AI, and communications to enable operational capability at the edge—where connectivity may be degraded or non-existent. Our mission is to accelerate technology deployment, improve real-time decision-making for frontline teams, and safeguard personnel and assets in high-stakes environments.
Headquartered in Bristol, Rowden employs around 160 people across 20,000+ square feet of engineering and manufacturing facilities. As one of Europe’s fastest-growing engineering firms, we have a growing international presence.
Key Responsibilities
As Principal Quality Test Engineer, you’ll build and lead Rowden’s hardware assurance capability. This includes:
- Defining test methodologies, laboratory standards, and quality processes that ensure every hardware product—from multi-frequency RF/smart radios to ruggedised mechanical systems—meets precision requirements.
- Setting the benchmarks for quality assurance, shaping a scalable, automated test framework that spans RF, electronics, networking, and mechanical validation.
- Operating at the frontline of product delivery, working closely with VP Engineering, VP Product, and Principal Software Test Engineer, to ensure flawless hardware deployment.
You’ll report at least 3 days weekly to our Bristol HQ, though additional time may be required based on project demands. Candidates must be eligible for SC security clearance in the UK.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
