Principal Risk Engineer | 12-month initial contract (Outside IR35) | London

Cititec has partnered with a leading global commodities trading company, who are looking to bring a Principal Risk Engineer into their London team.
This is a senior technology leadership position within the Risk Technology function, with responsibility for the firm's risk technology landscape, playing an important part in the longer-term evolution towards a more real-time, automated and scalable risk platform, working closely with senior technology, trading and risk stakeholders.
What you’ll do:
- Own the delivery and evolution of critical CTRM and risk technology capabilities.
- Lead the onboarding, integration and implementation of new CTRMs and related platforms.
- Provide senior technical leadership across risk technology initiatives.
- Lead and develop a small team of highly capable technology professionals.
- Act as a senior escalation point for complex technical and operational issues.
- Collaborate closely with trading, risk, technology and business stakeholders.
- Drive improvements across platform scalability, automation, reliability and performance.
- Contribute to the evolution towards real-time risk and next-generation risk technology.
- Help define the technology roadmap and bridge existing CTRM capabilities with future-state platforms.
- Work closely with engineers and architects across Python, C++, data and cloud technologies.

Requirements:
- Significant experience within commodities trading, financial markets, CTRM or risk technology.
- Strong understanding of trading workflows, trade lifecycle and market risk.
- Proven experience implementing, integrating or onboarding complex CTRM or risk platforms.
- Strong technical background with experience across areas such as Python, APIs, databases, data platforms and distributed systems.
- Experience leading, mentoring or managing technical teams.
- Ability to operate comfortably between detailed technical discussions and senior stakeholder engagement.
- Strong understanding of scalable, high-performance technology environments.
- Experience working closely with trading, risk and technology teams.
- Exposure to real-time risk, cloud-native architecture or high-performance data processing would be beneficial.
- Experience with technologies such as Python, C++, ClickHouse or Iceberg would be advantageous.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, pragmatic approach.
