Principal Security Engineer
£110,000 - £120,000 + benefits
United Kingdom - REMOTE
I'm supporting a growing technology business in a regulated sector that is hiring its first Principal Security Engineer.
The role
Security here is a blank page. No tooling, no policies, nobody who has done this job before you. You decide what the function should look like, then build it.
- That means choosing and standing up the stack, designing an identity model that survives an audit, writing detections that catch things early, and picking up the phone when something breaks.
- It also means the quieter half: the policies, the risk register, and the honest conversation with leadership about what the business can live with.
You will work alongside the IT operations counterpart to set how the two disciplines fit together. Nobody reports to you, so your influence rests on being the person whose judgement is trusted.
Reasons to use Rodeo
I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
Graduate Consultant — 2026 Scheme
Why you're a good match
StrongYour economics background and your summer at a regional bank line up with what PwC looks for on the consulting scheme. Applications close in four weeks.
See breakdownIt searches the market for you
Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Key Responsibilities:
- Select and deploy the security stack from nothing, built on zero trust across cloud, SaaS, endpoints and identity
- Write and tune the detections, then run investigations end to end
- Own incident response, including the playbooks that outlast you
- Automate the repetitive work, from access reviews to vulnerability reporting
- Stand up the governance framework and sit opposite the auditors with evidence
What they are looking for
- Six years or more in security engineering or operations, including a stretch where you built rather than maintained
- Properly hands on with EDR/XDR, SIEM and MDM. Configured and fixed, not just procured
- Real depth in identity: SSO, SAML, OAuth, conditional access, MFA, and zero trust you have actually shipped
- Incident response you led yourself, first alert to post-incident review
- Python, Bash or PowerShell, and the instinct to automate rather than repeat
- Policies you have written and audits you have faced, across ISO 27001, SOC 2 or Cyber Essentials
- Cloud-native and SaaS-heavy environments, AWS preferred.
