About the Role
My client is a market leading global IoT technology company, with a wide range of hardware & software products/services.
They are looking to hire a Principal Software Architect to drive innovation and shape the future of its connected software ecosystem across cloud, desktop, Firmware and mobile platforms.
This is a high-impact role focused on improving architectural consistency, modernising legacy systems, and driving scalable IoT solutions across a complex engineering environment.
You will work closely with senior management and the relevant technical teams to define technical direction, align technologies, and ensure systems evolve in a scalable and maintainable way.

Key Skills/Experience Required
- Extensive experience in software engineering, with significant time in architectural roles
- Proven experience designing distributed systems across cloud and application layers
- Strong experience with at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP), ideally across multiple
- Experience integrating hardware or embedded systems with cloud-based platforms
- Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams
- Excellent communication skills across both technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience in IoT or software/hardware environments (e.g., connected devices, telecoms)
- Exposure to mobile and SDK-based architectures
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development approaches
- Track record of delivering pragmatic, implementable architecture (not just conceptual design)

Additional Information
This is a hybrid role (3 days per week in the office). They are based in Bristol and have plenty of parking onsite.
