Principal Software Engineer - Java - CI/CD & Continuous Delivery London - Hybrid Permanent
We are working with a specialist technology consultancy looking to hire experienced Senior Software Engineers to work within a major financial organisation.
This is a senior hands-on engineering role focused on improving how development teams build, test and release software. You’ll embed directly with engineering teams, identify what is slowing down or adding risk to delivery, and then get hands-on to fix it.
The role combines strong Java software engineering with CI/CD, automated testing and Continuous Delivery, with a focus on making software releases faster, safer and more repeatable.
The role
- Embed with development teams to identify and resolve bottlenecks across the software delivery lifecycle.
- Build, improve and automate CI/CD pipelines.
- Improve automated testing and introduce stronger TDD practices.
- Move testing, security and quality checks earlier in the development lifecycle.
- Upgrade Java runtimes, libraries, dependencies and application frameworks.
- Containerise applications and improve deployment processes.
- Improve observability, logging and production resilience.
- Automate application, database and infrastructure changes.
- Improve engineering practices around source control, code review and dependency management.
- Work directly with engineers to implement improvements rather than operating in a purely advisory capacity.

What we're looking for
- Strong hands-on Java / JVM software engineering experience.
- Strong CI/CD and Continuous Delivery experience.
- Experience building or significantly improving automated deployment pipelines.
- Strong TDD and automated testing experience.
- Experience with Spring / Spring Boot.
- Experience with Jenkins, TeamCity or similar CI/CD tooling.
- Docker and Kubernetes / OpenShift experience.
- Experience with Maven or Gradle.
- Good understanding of secure coding, observability and production engineering.
- Comfortable working across unfamiliar applications and solving problems throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
- Experience using modern AI coding tools as part of the development process.
- Comfortable operating at a senior level while remaining highly hands-on.
- Financial services or other complex, regulated environment experience would be beneficial.
