Job Overview
(Please note, location is Manchester, however we are open to having this position be based out of any of our other offices across the UK)
Are you interested in bringing new graphics and gaming technology into commercial games and game engines? This could be the role for you!
The Game & Graphics Technology Integration (GTI) team helps developers adopt new Arm technologies by integrating them into game engines and production workflows. The team works with technology before it reaches broad release, tests it in practical scenarios, and feeds what we learn back into the teams building it.
GTI is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to provide technical leadership across game-engine, graphics, and performance projects.
The role combines hands-on engineering with architecture, mentoring and collaboration. Projects often begin before all the answers are known, so the work involves investigating options, building prototypes, and helping several teams agree on a practical way forward.
GTI is part of Arm’s Strategy & Ecosystems organisation and works with teams across graphics, machine learning, drivers, developer tools, and performance.
Responsibilities
The Principal Software Engineer will:
- Lead game-engine investigations and integrations involving new Arm graphics and compute technologies, including work in Unreal Engine and other commercial or proprietary engines.
- Build prototypes, assess architectural options, and help determine which approaches should progress into reusable implementations.
- Analyse CPU and GPU performance, diagnose integration issues, and turn findings into clear recommendations for Arm engineering teams and partners.
- Provide technical direction across team boundaries, represent GTI in partner discussions, and mentor engineers working on related projects.
The role is expected to have impact beyond individual project delivery. This includes improving technical approaches, identifying recurring problems, sharing engineering knowledge, and helping other engineers make sound decisions independently.
Required Skills And Experience
Strong experience in software engineering for graphics, game engines, systems software or other real-time applications is required, together with:

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- Practical experience with Vulkan or another modern graphics API, plus strong C++ skills.
- Graphics debugging and profiling tools.
- Experience working within a large game engine or comparable software codebase.
- A solid understanding of GPU rendering, synchronisation, memory behaviour, and CPU/GPU performance.
- Experience leading technical work, resolving ambiguous engineering problems, and influencing decisions across teams.
- Clear written and verbal communication skill, and the ability to explain technical decisions to engineers, leaders and external partners.
Please note that this role may involve occasional travel to conferences and to our partners' offices.
Nice to Have
Experience in some of the following areas would be useful:
- Unreal Engine, mobile graphics, Android, or Arm Mali GPUs.
- Machine learning for graphics, neural rendering, upscaling, frame generation, or development with pre-release hardware and software.
We don't expect a deep level of experience across every area. Candidates with strong game-engine or graphics expertise who are interested in learning the rest are encouraged to apply!
About The Team
GTI works where Arm technology meets real game-development workflows.
Our current focus is supporting adoption of technologies from Arm’s Neural Graphics Program, alongside work in engine integration, graphics performance, tooling, and partner enablement. During the last year, we've been contributing to the development of Neural Dawn, the first mobile game that makes use of our neural graphics technology and Unreal Engine's MegaLights.
Typical tasks involve engine modifications, investigating a performance problem, testing an early software stack, maintaining and improving tooling, developing a reusable workflow, enabling our Content Team, and working directly with external developers.
Ultimately, our main goal is to make others successful by helping them integrate our technology into their projects and tech stacks.
Additional Information
Please note that a relocation package (including visa sponsorship support) is available for this role, for candidates who require it.
