Principal Structural Engineer

Chester, Cheshire
Excellent salary package, commensurate with experience

About COOPERS

Established in 1982, COOPERS is an independent consulting engineering practice based in Chester. With around 30 staff, we provide structural, civil, geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering services, specialising almost exclusively in residential developments for many of the UK's leading national and regional housebuilders.

We are proud of our long-standing client relationships, technical reputation and practical approach to engineering.

The Role

Following the planned retirement of our long-serving Principal Structural Engineer, we are looking to appoint an experienced Chartered Structural Engineer to lead our structural team.

This is a hands-on technical role where you'll remain actively involved in structural design, calculations and problem solving. You'll work closely with one Structural Engineer and two Senior CAD Technicians, providing technical leadership while continuing to undertake design work yourself.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
