Principal System Architect - Industrial Sensors

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal System Architect - Industrial Sensors based in United Kingdom.

This is a global technical leadership role focused on shaping the future of industrial sensing technologies and applications.

You will translate customer needs, market trends, and technology developments into differentiated sensor solutions and strategic product concepts.

The role combines deep system-level expertise with market intelligence, product strategy, innovation, and customer engagement.

You will act as a trusted technical authority, advising customers and internal teams on sensing architectures, trade-offs, and integration challenges.

You will influence mid- and long-term technology roadmaps while identifying portfolio gaps, emerging opportunities, and areas for investment.

Working across sales, product management, engineering, R&D, and marketing, you will help turn technical insights into scalable solutions and sustainable business growth.

The position is ideal for an experienced industrial sensing expert who can connect complex technology decisions with customer value and strategic business priorities.

Accountabilities

As the Principal System Architect, you will provide system-level technical leadership while connecting customer requirements, market intelligence, engineering capabilities, and business strategy.

  • Serve as the recognized technical authority for industrial sensing applications, providing expert guidance to customers, partners, and internal teams.
  • Translate market, application, and customer requirements into product specifications, system architectures, and development priorities.
  • Advise customers on system-level trade-offs to optimize performance, reliability, cost, and ease of integration.
  • Drive early customer engagement and design-in activities in collaboration with engineering teams and technical decision-makers.
  • Develop and deliver application-focused training for sales, field applications engineering, marketing, and engineering teams.
  • Represent the organization as a thought leader through industry forums, trade shows, technical publications, and digital channels.
  • Monitor market dynamics, industry trends, growth drivers, competitive developments, and emerging application opportunities.
  • Identify technology gaps, disruptive innovations, competitive threats, and strategic opportunities that can inform future investments.
  • Shape mid- and long-term product, technology, and innovation roadmaps based on customer, market, and application insights.
  • Partner with Product Management, R&D, Sales, and Marketing to define product strategies, roadmap priorities, and commercialization plans.
  • Lead and sponsor advanced technology initiatives that enable differentiated products and sustainable competitive advantage.
  • Act as a strategic technical advisor to business and product leadership, influencing portfolio decisions and long-term growth strategies.
  • Champion disciplined engineering, cross-functional collaboration, and customer-focused innovation.

Requirements

The role requires extensive industrial sensing experience combined with strong system architecture expertise, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence across a complex, cross-functional environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline; a technical master’s degree is preferred.
  • 10+ years of direct experience within the industrial sensors market in a comparable technical or strategic role.
  • Strong knowledge of sensor technologies and system-level integration.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with customer engineering teams to develop technical solutions.
  • Ability to translate complex technical requirements into practical, scalable solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex situations and create organizational alignment.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills.
  • Familiarity with market-driven product strategy and platform development.
  • Ability to lead initiatives and drive execution in a cross-functional environment.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Willingness and ability to travel globally approximately 25% of the time.
