What you'll do
The Principal Systems Architect will work within a small team within the Solutions Engineering team who are responsible for all engineering aspects (from initial concept to introduction of the service) for ViaSat’s Aircraft Operations and Safety, and Advance Air Mobility Services. The postholder will be the systems architect for the evolution of Viasat’s Advanced Air Mobility and SwiftBroadband Safety infrastructure. The main focus will be on enabling the next generation of aviation—including UAVs, uncrewed systems, and autonomous platforms—with resilient, secure, and scalable satellite connectivity; and emerging communications and surveillance requirements for Air Traffic Management. The role requires close working with industry partners within the UAV/Satefy community including UAV/aircraft manufacturers (i.e. Airbus and Boeing), avionics suppliers, and air traffic communication service providers and airline operational services. The role will represent Viasat as a technical expert in meetings with suppliers and must be capable of dealing confidently with experts in similar (and adjacent fields) and help develop innovative solutions that unlock new possibilities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
