About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Systems Engineer to join our team at Portsmouth Naval Base. This pivotal role is situated within the Systems Engineering Hub, part of the Warship Technical Authority Service Hub, which provides comprehensive support for naval systems and equipment throughout their lifecycle. In this capacity, you will lead and manage complex systems engineering projects, ensuring the delivery of tailored solutions that meet contractual and operational requirements. Proven experience in applying systems engineering principles across the entire lifecycle—including requirements management, architecture definition, integration, and verification & validation—is essential. Familiarity with high-level design methodologies and architectures such as UAF, NAF, TOGAF, SysML, and UML, along with practical skills in MBSE tools like Enterprise Architect, is required. Knowledge of systems engineering standards, particularly ISO 15288, and experience with requirements and interface management tools such as DOORS, will be highly advantageous. Strong leadership capabilities, with the ability to guide and mentor engineering teams, are also essential.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
