£35.00 ph umbrella

Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Maldon District Council to recruit a Principle Technical Lead on a three-month temporary basis. Please note that this role requires 2 days a week site attendance.

Maldon District Council is looking for an experienced and proactive Principle Technical Lead to play a key role in supporting the effective delivery of Development Management services.

This is an important leadership role within the Place, Planning & Growth service, supporting the day-to-day management of Technical Support and Validation functions. The role focuses on ensuring compliant, efficient and customer-focused processes, strong team performance, and continuous service improvement.

The role:

Reporting into the Technical Support Team Leader, you will:

  • Support the day-to-day management, workflow and prioritisation of Technical Support and Validation Officers
  • Act as a point of escalation for complex or sensitive customer and internal enquiries
  • Help drive service improvement, consistency and resilience across Development Management processes
  • Support staff development, performance management and training
  • Contribute to improved systems, digital services and customer self-service
  • Work collaboratively across teams and services to support statutory and corporate objectives

The experience you will bring:

  • Strong experience in Development Management and/or Building Control environments
  • Confidence managing workflows, priorities and competing demands
  • The ability to support and develop others through coaching, guidance and clear communication
  • Experience contributing to business or process improvement initiatives
  • A customer-focused approach, with the confidence to handle complex or contentious enquiries
  • Good working knowledge of planning support systems and digital tools
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work positively with colleagues, members, partners and stakeholders

The ideal candidate will need to attend the office at least twice a week, ideally Tuesday and Wednesday or Wednesday and Thursday.
