Principal Town Planner - Derby
Location: Derby
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

Are you an experienced Town Planner looking for your next career move with an established and growing planning consultancy?
We are currently supporting a well-established planning consultancy with the appointment of a Principal Town Planner to join its Derby-based team. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious planning professional to take a leading role within a successful consultancy, working across a varied portfolio of projects and clients while contributing to the continued growth of the business.
The Role
As a Principal Town Planner, you will manage a diverse range of planning projects, providing strategic planning advice to clients and taking responsibility for projects from inception through to determination.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing a varied caseload of planning projects across residential, commercial and other development sectors.
- Preparing and submitting planning applications, appeals and associated planning documents.
- Providing high-quality planning advice to private and public sector clients.
- Leading negotiations with Local Planning Authorities and other stakeholders.
- Managing projects, budgets and timescales effectively.
- Developing and maintaining strong client relationships.
- Supporting business development and identifying new opportunities.
- Mentoring and supporting more junior members of the planning team.
- Contributing to the continued development and profile of the consultancy.

About You
We are looking for an experienced planning professional with a strong consultancy background and a track record of successfully managing planning projects.
You will ideally have:
- Significant experience within a planning consultancy or similar environment.
- A relevant degree in Town Planning or a related discipline.
- Chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), or be working towards chartership.
- Strong knowledge of the UK planning system and relevant legislation and policy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to develop strong client relationships.
- Experience managing projects and working with planning authorities.
- The confidence to take ownership of work and provide strategic planning advice.
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior colleagues.
