Principal Planner
Location: Cheltenham
Salary: £48,000+ depending on experience
Working Pattern: Hybrid
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Planner to join a growing and dynamic planning consultancy.
With an established pipeline of work and further growth planned, the business is looking for a confident planning professional who can take ownership of projects, manage client relationships and provide guidance to more junior members of the team.
The role offers exposure to a varied portfolio of projects, from smaller-scale residential schemes through to larger and more complex developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing a varied portfolio of planning applications and projects.
- Taking responsibility for projects from inception through to determination.
- Providing strategic planning advice to clients.
- Managing and developing client relationships.
- Preparing and submitting planning applications and associated documentation.
- Liaising with Local Planning Authorities and other key stakeholders.
- Acting as a senior point of contact for clients throughout the planning process.
- Identifying practical solutions to complex planning matters.
- Mentoring and supporting junior planners within the team.
- Contributing to the development and continued growth of the planning consultancy.

About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- 4–5+ years' relevant planning experience.
- MRTPI qualification.
- Strong knowledge of the UK planning system.
- Proven experience managing planning applications and projects.
- Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence dealing directly with clients and Local Planning Authorities.
- A proactive, commercial and solutions-focused approach.
- The ability to manage multiple projects within a fast-paced consultancy.
- Experience supporting or mentoring more junior members of a team.
