Principal Transport Planner – Development Planning
Location: Remote / UK-wide
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Working Pattern: Full-time, Remote
The Opportunity
We are working with an established and growing consultancy who are looking to appoint a Principal Transport Planner to join their Development Planning team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced transport professional looking for a senior position offering genuine autonomy, flexibility and the opportunity to play a key role in the continued growth of the business.
Working remotely, you will take responsibility for leading a range of development planning projects, managing client relationships and providing strategic transport planning advice across a varied portfolio of schemes.
The Role
As a Principal Transport Planner, you will be responsible for leading projects from inception through to completion, while also supporting the wider growth and development of the team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the delivery of complex Development Planning projects.
- Preparing and overseeing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans and other technical reports.
- Providing strategic transport planning advice to developers, landowners and other clients.
- Managing relationships with clients, local authorities and key stakeholders.
- Leading negotiations with highway authorities and other relevant consultees.
- Managing project budgets, programmes and deliverables.
- Reviewing and overseeing technical work produced by junior members of the team.
- Providing guidance, mentoring and technical support to colleagues.
- Supporting planning applications, appeals and pre-application submissions.
- Undertaking and overseeing traffic generation, distribution and junction assessments.
- Identifying opportunities to develop new and existing client relationships.
- Supporting business development, fee proposals and winning new work.
- Contributing to the continued growth and development of the Development Planning team.

About You
We are looking for an experienced Principal-level Transport Planner with a strong background in Development Planning and consultancy.
Ideally, you will have:
- Significant experience within a transport planning consultancy.
- Extensive experience delivering Development Planning projects.
- Strong technical experience across Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and Travel Plans.
- Excellent knowledge of the UK planning and development process.
- Experience managing projects, budgets and client relationships.
- Strong experience engaging with local authorities and highway authorities.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor junior and senior members of a team.
- Strong commercial awareness and an interest in business development.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work autonomously and effectively within a remote environment.
- A relevant degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography or a related discipline.
