Principal/Senior Medical Writer

UK | Remote | Competitive Salary + Benefits

A growing, science-led medical communications agency is looking to appoint Principal & Senior Medical Writers to join its expanding Medical & Scientific team with a focus on medical affairs.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone seeking a role that combines scientific excellence with client leadership, strategic input, mentoring responsibilities, and clear long-term progression.

The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping scientific communications programmes, leading client relationships, supporting business growth initiatives, and developing more junior members of the editorial team.

The Opportunity

This position sits within a highly collaborative medical and scientific function and offers the chance to work across a diverse range of pharmaceutical and biotech clients, therapeutic areas, and communication programmes.

You'll be responsible for delivering scientifically rigorous content while acting as a trusted advisor to clients and internal stakeholders. The role offers significant exposure to strategic planning, account leadership, and team development, making it an ideal next step for writers looking to broaden their influence beyond content creation alone.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of high-quality scientific and medical communications materials across a range of deliverables
  • Produce and review content including publications, slide decks, advisory board materials, symposia content, medical education programmes, e-learning modules, and digital assets
  • Ensure all outputs meet the highest standards of scientific accuracy, compliance, and editorial quality
  • Provide senior-level review and guidance on content developed by other writers
  • Lead client meetings, scientific discussions, advisory boards, and educational programmes
  • Build strong, long-term client relationships through proactive scientific and strategic support
  • Attend client meetings, congresses, and scientific events as required
  • Mentor and support the development of junior and mid-level medical writers
  • Contribute to onboarding, training, and capability-building initiatives
  • Support proposal development and new business opportunities
  • Contribute scientific expertise to pitches and strategic discussions
  • Manage timelines, budgets, and project delivery across multiple accounts
  • Identify opportunities for account growth and expanded client partnerships

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
