Principal Software / Product Engineer
London, hybrid, 3 days per week on site £160,000 - £210,000
We’re supporting a fast-scaling technology business looking for a Principal Software / Product Engineer to take a senior hands-on role across product architecture, software delivery, AI-enabled product development, and engineering execution.
This is not a traditional management role. The business needs someone who can operate at a high technical level, lead by example, mentor senior engineers, and help teams move faster without compromising quality.

You’ll work closely with Product, Engineering, Design, Data, and AI teams to shape complex product initiatives, improve technical decision-making, and embed automation-first ways of working.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead architecture and technical direction across complex product initiatives.
- Stay hands-on across software design, engineering execution, and delivery.
- Partner with Product, Design, Data, AI, and leadership teams.
- Mentor senior and staff-level engineers.
- Improve engineering standards, delivery processes, and product quality.

What We’re Looking For
- Principal, Staff, or Senior Staff-level software engineering experience.
- Strong hands-on background building complex software products.
- Experience in product-led technology environments.
- Strong architecture and system design capability.
- Experience leading or mentoring senior engineers.
- Good understanding of AI, automation, or AI-enabled product development.
