PCB Design Engineer/Layout Engineer | Newcastle upon Tyne

Role Overview
We are looking for a PCB engineer or someone with IC layout knowledge to work on RF layout design, there is training and development available. Once fully onboarded and trained, you'll own taking chip and reticle layouts from first concept through to mask release. It'll mean working alongside process, product engineers, customers and supplies to deliver projects.
What You'll Own
Layout
- Laying out ICs and reticle sets from initial concept
- Checking every design against internal mask set release procedures
- Working in layout tools such as KLayout, L-Edit and NAZCA-Design

Mask Release and Documentation
- Preparing documentation for critical design and mask release reviews, and setting up and representing layout at those reviews
- Producing mask order documents and reticle design documents
- Keeping reticle set records, the mask document archive and the mask data archive up to date
Customer and Supplier Liaison
- Acting as the layout technical contact for internal and external customers
- Working directly with mask manufacturers
- Coordinating with engineers and programme managers to keep reticle work on schedule
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Around 2 years in electronic or electrical engineering with hands-on CAD layout experience
- Confident using layout software; KLayout, L-Edit or NAZCA-Design is ideal, but strong experience in a PCB layout tool and willingness to switch is considered
- HND or HNC in a science or engineering subject
- Strong numeracy and written accuracy, as you will produce controlled release documents
- A logical, precise approach to resolving spatial layout problems
- Comfortable dealing with customers and building credibility with technical teams

Useful
- Multilayer PCB design experience
- Exposure to IC layout or working with a PDK (Process Design Kit)
- HND or HNC specifically in physics, electronic or electrical engineering, or CAD/CAE
