Prison Support Officer – Industries (HMP Fosse Way)
Location: HMP Fosse Way, Leicestershire, LE18 4TN Band: 7 Contract: Permanent (Full-Time, 40 Hours per week) Salary: £26,510 per annum
About the Role
Here at Serco, we are seeking an Industries Prison Support Officer to join the team at our latest state-of-the-art Category C prison, HMP Fosse Way.
The Industries Prison Support Officer role involves:
- Participating in daily industries building operations and workshops
- Supporting coordination of purposeful activity spaces across the prison
- Working in diverse environments, including:
- Waste Management
- Lighting
- Barista Academy
- Music Production
- Resettlement Hub
- Escorting prisoners, contractors, visitors, and vehicles securely to/from workshops
The successful candidate will play a critical role in:
- Assisting Industries staff to maximise engagement in work, education, and training for prisoner rehabilitation.
- Ensuring timely and secure prisoner movements between wings and workshops.
- Monitoring prisoner attendance and reporting concerns to the Industries PA Manager.
- Managing safe control of keys, radios, and communications.
- Escorting adhering to the Local Security Strategy & National Security Framework.
- Maintaining accurate records and health & safety standards.
- Performing visual surveillance and anticipating/addressing potential incidents.

Key Responsibilities
- Support tutors and staff in delivering activities to enhance prisoner rehabilitation.
- Facilitate efficient and secure prisoner flow between accommodation and workshops.
- Monitor prisoner engagement and report concerns promptly.
- Coordinate key and radio distribution securely.
- Adhere to strict escorting protocols while ensuring prisoner and establishment safety.
- Maintain a full audit trail and uphold H&S standards.
- Provide visual monitoring and escalate risks as required.
Person Specification
Applicants must demonstrate:
- Strong teamwork ability and capacity to work independently.
- Professional, mature, and courteous demeanour.
- Flexibility, punctuality, and adaptable approach.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to make sound judgements.
- Problem-solving skills and resilience under pressure.
- Experience (or willingness) to engage with the general public.
- At least GCSE standard education.
