# Dual Badge Officer (DBO) – Prisoner Escort Custody Services (PECS)
Location: Bristol Vehicle Base, BS11 8HT
Join as a Dual Badge Officer (DBO) in Prisoner Escort Custody Services (PECS), a vital role ensuring safety, security, and fairness in the justice system.
About the Role
You’ll be part of a precision team delivering court transport and custody services for adults, children, and young people. Your responsibilities include:
- Transporting detainees safely to court
- Assessing risks, performing vehicle checks, and maintaining security protocols
- Engaging and supporting vulnerable individuals with professionalism
- Liaising with court staff, completing paperwork, and ensuring adherence to regulations
Salary & Compensation
Initial Salary:
- £24,596 (35 hours per week)
Graduated Base Salary:
- £28,109 (40 hours per week), rising to £29,205 from 1st September 2026
- Clear annual progression:
- Year 2: £29,932
- Year 3: £30,496
- Year 4: £31,063
Additional Benefits:
- Driving allowance: £600 per year
- Specialist training allowance: £900 per year (for dual badge officers)
- With average overtime (8 hours per week), a first-year potential income reaches £35,705
Working Hours & Operations
- 24/7 service: Flexibility is essential, with unpredictable finishing times
- Rota-based scheduling: 12 weeks’ notice for shift planning
- Exclusively full working days: No reduced hours on fewer days

Key Responsibilities
As a DBO, you’ll handle tasks including:
- Attending briefings to receive route/detainee details
- Transporting adults and young detainees safely
- Supporting vulnerable individuals while maintaining professionalism
- Liaising with court staff
- Ensuring paperwork and administrative checks are completed correctly

Requirements
To excel in this role, you must possesses:
- Full UK driving licence (B/B1) (essential for role expectations)
- Physical fitness for duty demands
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to stay composed and make decisions under pressure
- Confidence in behaviour management and de-escalation
- Teamwork and attention to detail in following protocols
- Professionalism, integrity, and discretion
- Genuine interest in supporting children and young people
