Dual Badge Officer (DBO) in Prisoner Escort Custody Services (PECS)

Location: Eastleigh Vehicle Base, SO53 4HZ

  • Initial Training Salary: £24,596 (35 hours per week)

  • Graduated Base Salary: £28,109 (full-time, 40 hours per week)

  • Progression:

    • Year 2: £29,932
    • Year 3: £30,496
    • Year 4: £31,063
    • Rising to £29,205 from 1st September 2026
  • Additional Allowances:

    • £600 per year driving allowance (subject to terms)
    • £900 annual allowance for dual-badge specialist training
  • Potential First-Year Income: £35,705 (factoring in overtime of ~8 hours per week)


Operational Responsibilities

  • Operates 24/7, ensuring flexible availability for early and late shifts.
  • Shift patterns are set 12 weeks in advance but can be unpredictable.
  • Finishing times may sometimes require working beyond contracted hours.
  • Part-time options exist but must be across full working days only.

Key Duties:

  • Escort adults, children, and young people safely to/from court or custody.
  • Conduct risk assessments and vehicle checks before transport.
  • Engage and support young detainees; ensure professionalism in behaviour management.
  • Collaborate with court staff and maintain ethical conduct with vulnerable individuals.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Full UK driving licence (Category B/B1) – essential.
  • Reasonable fitness for the physical demands of the role (lifting, long periods of standing).
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) in high-stress situations.
  • Ability to stay calm and make quick decisions under pressure.
  • Conflict de-escalation and behavioural management skills.
  • Team-oriented, with a commitment to following protocols accurately.
  • Confidentiality and integrity must be upheld at all times.
  • Genuine passion for safeguarding and supporting vulnerable individuals.

  • 5.5 weeks of paid training, including structured induction.
  • Ongoing skills development via internal courses, mentoring, and qualifications.

Recruitment Process
