Private Client Legal Director

Location: Central London - hybrid
Experience: 5PQE+

OVERVIEW

Join a top-tier Legal 500 law firm with a leading Private Client and Tax practice in Central London. This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Associate to Legal Director-level Private Client lawyer with strong international tax and residence experience to work on complex, high-value matters for an exceptional client base.

The team advises HNW and UHNW individuals, international families, entrepreneurs, family offices, trustees, and business owners on sophisticated UK and international tax, succession, and wealth planning matters.

The role has a particularly strong focus on international tax and residence, including the Statutory Residence Test, split-year treatment, double taxation treaties, and cross-border tax planning. The successful candidate will work on complex matters involving individuals moving to or from the UK, dual-residence issues, and multi-jurisdictional assets and structures.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Handling complex UK and international tax matters for HNW and UHNW individuals, families, and trustees.
  • Advising on UK tax residence, the Statutory Residence Test, and split-year treatment.
  • Advising on the application of double taxation treaties, treaty residence, and cross-border tax issues.
  • Supporting internationally mobile clients with their UK tax position when moving to or from the UK.
  • Working on complex trusts, succession planning, and international wealth structures.
  • Advising on cross-border estates, Wills, and succession matters.
  • Working closely with overseas lawyers, accountants, trustees, and other professional advisers.
  • Managing client relationships and taking responsibility for complex matters from start to finish.
  • Supporting and supervising junior members of the team where appropriate.

ABOUT YOU

  • Qualified Solicitor with Senior Associate-level experience or above in Private Client, Private Wealth, or Tax.
  • Strong technical experience advising on international tax and residence matters.
  • Direct experience with the Statutory Residence Test and application of double taxation treaties is particularly important.
  • Experience advising internationally mobile individuals and families on UK tax residence and cross-border planning.
  • Strong understanding of trusts, succession planning, and international wealth structures.
  • Experience dealing with complex multi-jurisdictional matters and working alongside overseas professional advisers.
  • Strong technical ability and an interest in sophisticated international Private Client work.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior lawyers would be advantageous.
  • STEP qualification or equivalent technical qualification is desirable but not essential.
