RWK Goodman is looking to strengthen its Private Client offering in Swindon with the addition of an experienced Partner. The team, led by Mandy Casavant, is recognized for its expertise in complex tax and succession planning.
The Swindon team is comprised of one partner, two associates, two solicitors, four legal assistants, and a paralegal. However, there are over 80 members of the Private Client team across all of our regions. The Private Client Practice is a core part of the firm’s business and a key focus for continued development. There is a high level of support to assist with cascading work and improve profitability for the team.
The firm has recently invested in a new, modern Swindon hub, creating a high-quality working environment that supports collaboration across teams and underpins its long-term regional strategy for supporting all of Wiltshire and into parts of Berkshire and Gloucestershire.
This is an opportunity for an ambitious partner to join a well-regarded team, work with high-quality clients, and play a meaningful role in shaping the next phase of growth in the region.
About the Role
As a Partner, you will develop clients and work within the department with an aim to build and grow the business while maintaining a consistent level of excellent client service. You will also support the Head of Department/lead the department in achieving the Business Plan.
Key Responsibilities
Personalised Client Service
- Provide supervision and support to the team.
- Effective and efficient delivery of work on your own files, ensuring matters are profitable, while taking responsibility for the supervision of more junior fee earners with regards to file management and time recording.
- Act as the senior lawyer on the most challenging matters. A recognized expert in your discipline/sector.
- Build effective relationships with your own clients and/or referrers by exceeding client service expectations and where appropriate, support partners on the management and development of larger key clients.
- Manage a client review process and introduce changes based on feedback.
- Run effective client/referrer development plans.
- Identify, select, and where appropriate, manage external experts or consultants.
- Agree services being provided to clients with a clear basis for charging and pricing.
- Identify and manage professional risk for yourself and the team, ensuring appropriate systems and processes are adhered to.
- Apply the rules of professional conduct in accounting and financial matters, monitoring the supervision of others so these principles are adhered to.

Sustainable Growth
- Expand your area of business by broadening your area of expertise into new client sectors/markets or achieving greater market share.
- Lead on the generation of thought leadership based on changes in the law, market trends, or other relevant material to attract new opportunities.
- Take responsibility for developing department know-how and marketing materials and supporting others.
- Provide support when others are in the communities and have the chance to provide legal services outside of the office setting yourself, using it as the main hub.
- Cement and grow networks internally and externally to refer business to the department and to the firm.
- Support pitch teams by attending pitches, writing materials, and preparing documents.
- Work with our Marketing team for the publication of material.
Dynamic Culture
- Provide leadership and management for the team, setting SMART objectives, and providing support to help the team achieve these.
- Actively manage performance within your team.
- Develop yourself and others in line with the Leadership behaviors and embody our values both internally and externally. Support and engage in firm-wide events.
- Develop collaborative processes and ways of working to improve team performance and morale.
- Develop efficiencies and use of precedents to improve recovery rates.
Financial & Operational Excellence
- Responsible for managing and supervising work in the team to achieve all financial and non-financial KPIs. Use management information to understand the performance of yourself and the team.
- Ensure profitability on matters for yourself and the team through understanding the contractual basis on which legal services are provided, including how to calculate and manage costs and bill clients.
- Understand the key challenges in the sector and implement ways to improve business performance through innovative practices.
- Align personal contribution and activities to the wider business objectives and the success of the firm.
- Any other reasonable duties as requested by the Business Manager, including occasional work in other offices.
Skills, Experience, Attributes
- Strong knowledge and practice of law (essential).
- Understanding of the sector (essential).
- Client following and business plan (desirable but not essential).
- Exceptional client management skills (essential).
- Strong business developer with demonstrable experience of converting BD activity to work (essential).
