Join MHA as a Private Client Tax Associate apprentice

Supporting individuals, families, and trusts with their tax affairs. You’ll gain hands-on experience across tax compliance and planning while studying towards the ATT Level 5 and CTA Level 7 professional qualifications.

Your pay will progress throughout the apprenticeship, so you won’t need to wait until the end of the programme for a salary increase. Pay increments are awarded along the way to reflect your growing experience, skills, and progress through professional exams.

Training course

  • Accountancy or taxation professional (level 7)

Hours

  • Monday to Friday, 9.00am - 5.00pm. Our flexible working policy gives you greater choice over how you structure your day. With core hours of 10.00am - 2.00pm, you can start earlier or finish later to suit your needs, alongside working from home up to two days a week.
  • 37 hours 30 minutes a week

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • You’ll work with a varied portfolio of private clients, including individuals, families, trusts, and international clients. Your work will include preparing tax returns, researching tax legislation, supporting tax compliance, and helping develop tailored tax planning advice. As your experience grows, you may also gain exposure to areas such as inheritance tax, trusts, estates, succession planning, and cross-border tax matters.

What you'll learn

Course contents

  • Build trusted and sustainable relationships with individuals and organisations. Consistently support individuals and collaborate to achieve results as part of a team.
  • Influence the impact of business decisions on relevant and affected communities based on an appreciation of different organisations and the environments in which they operate.
  • Communicate in a clear, articulate, and appropriate manner. Adapt communications to suit different situations, individuals, or teams.
  • Identify ethical dilemmas, understand the implications, and behave appropriately. Understand their legal responsibilities, both within the letter and the spirit of the law, as well as be aware of the procedures for reporting concerns over potentially unethical activities.
  • Take ownership of allocated projects and effectively manage their own time and the time of others. Demonstrate good project management skills to deliver high-quality work within the appropriate timeline. Act as a role model and motivate others to deliver results.
  • Evaluate information quickly and draw accurate conclusions. Assess a problem from multiple angles to ensure all relevant issues are considered. Gather the appropriate facts and evidence to make decisions effectively.

Training schedule

  • You’ll train through a combination of structured study, practical experience, and support from experienced colleagues. You’ll learn by working on real client matters while studying towards the ATT Level 5 and CTA Level 7 qualifications. MHA will provide full study support, including tuition, exam fees, study materials, and dedicated study leave, alongside regular mentoring and on-the-job guidance.
