Responsibilities
As a Private Client Tax Assistant at Spencer Gardner Dickins your role would cover a variety of client facing and internal responsibilities which would typically cover:
- Managing new client onboarding.
- Preparing straightforward Self Assessment tax returns for review, including employment, pension, property and basic investment income.
- Gathering information and documentation from clients and follow up for anything outstanding.
- Reviewing information received and identify obvious gaps or queries for escalation.
- Assisting with payments on account for personal tax clients.
- Liaising with HMRC on routine client matters, including telephone calls and correspondence, under appropriate client authority.
- Checking HMRC records, tax codes, statements and other routine information.
- Assisting with registering clients for Self Assessment and other routine HMRC administration.
- Preparing straightforward calculations and supporting schedules.
- Preparing straightforward client P11D forms and submissions to HMRC.
- Updating client records and maintain accurate tax files and deadlines.
- Supporting the Personal Tax team with routine correspondence and general administration.
- Taking responsibility gradually for a small portfolio of straightforward personal tax clients as knowledge and experience develops.
- Referring more complex technical queries or unusual circumstances to senior members of the team.

Qualifications and Experience

We would expect the successful candidate to possess the following experience and qualities:
- ATT/CTA studier with at least 18 months experience in practice.
- An understanding of the personal tax compliance process and familiarity with the preparation of UK personal tax returns.
- Experience of CCH personal tax software or similar equivalent.
- Be a team player with strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Utmost professional integrity and discretion.
- Excellent time management and organisation.
