AJ Chambers is pleased to be working with a London-based accountancy practice to connect a Private Client Tax Manager with their next opportunity.

About The Role:

As a Private Client Tax Manager, you will play a key role in managing a varied portfolio of clients and leading a team of tax professionals. You will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality client service, managing workflow and resource allocation, supporting team development, and ensuring technical excellence across client engagements. The role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and relationship management skills. You will work closely with senior leadership to support departmental objectives, contribute to operational improvements, and help drive the continued growth and success of the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a varied portfolio of private clients, ensuring the delivery of high-quality compliance and advisory services.
  • Lead and oversee the work of Assistant Managers, Seniors, and Trainees, providing guidance, support, and technical oversight.
  • Plan and allocate client work effectively, ensuring team members are appropriately matched to assignments and development opportunities.
  • Manage client relationships and expectations, maintaining high levels of service and responsiveness.
  • Support the implementation of departmental objectives, budgets, and operational initiatives.
  • Share technical knowledge and provide coaching to team members to support their professional development.
  • Play an active role in the growth and development of the wider team and department.
  • Ensure clients remain informed of relevant legislative and technical developments that may impact their affairs.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and broader people-development initiatives.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide regular feedback, and contribute to employee development plans.
  • Promote high professional standards and a collaborative working environment.

Skills & Experience:

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • A relevant professional tax qualification (e.g., CTA) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience managing a diverse portfolio of private clients.
  • Strong technical knowledge across private client tax matters.
  • Proven experience leading, developing, and mentoring team members.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to influence, motivate, and support colleagues at different levels.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage challenging situations and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to identify opportunities for client service enhancement.
  • Commitment to maintaining high professional and technical standards.
