We are seeking an experienced professional to join our Private Housing Service in this newly created role.
This is an exciting opportunity to work within one of the largest Private Housing Services in the country, helping to improve housing conditions and support tenants, leaseholders, landlords and agents through advice, partnership working and enforcement.
Working closely with Avon Fire & Rescue Service and the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, you will lead a team responsible for accelerating the remediation of high and mid-rise privately owned residential buildings across Bristol, with opportunities to support wider remediation work across the West of England.

- Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience.
- Extensive knowledge of private housing, construction and fire safety.
- Strong understanding of legislation relating to the assessment and improvement of residential properties.
- Significant enforcement experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead a team and build effective partnerships.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines in a demanding environment.
- Willingness to learn and use new systems and technology.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the identification and assessment of high and mid-rise residential buildings requiring remediation.
- Prioritise cases using appropriate inspection and risk assessment methodologies.
- Take informal and formal enforcement action using relevant legal powers, including Tribunal and Court proceedings where necessary.
- Liaise regularly with Avon Fire & Rescue Service Fire Safety Officers.
- Manage, maintain and report on relevant data.
- Recruit, develop and lead your team.
Working arrangements
We currently operate a predominantly home-based working model, with attendance at our centrally located office required when service needs dictate, including team meetings, partner meetings, inspections and surveys.
