Job Purpose

The Private Rented Sector (PRS) Officer is tasked with leading the delivery of the Council’s Rental Support Scheme. This role is crucial in assisting households who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to secure and maintain suitable private rented accommodation.

Key Duties/Accountabilities

  • Lead the day-to-day delivery of the Rental Support Scheme.
  • Increase access to private rented properties through proactive landlord and agent engagement.
  • Develop and promote landlord incentive schemes to encourage participation.
  • Match households to suitable properties efficiently to reduce temporary accommodation usage.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with private landlords, letting agents, and partners.
  • Negotiate tenancy agreements to ensure affordability and sustainability.
  • Act as the key contact for landlords and agents, resolving queries and issues.
  • Support tenants to access and sustain tenancies, including early intervention in high-risk cases.

Essential Experience Required

  • Experience delivering front-line customer services to the public (face-to-face and telephone).
  • Significant experience within the private rented sector and strong knowledge of tenancy legislation.
  • Experience carrying out administrative and case management duties.

Essential Qualifications Required

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) – Essential
  • Relevant housing or property-related training/qualifications – Desirable

Additional Information

  • Working hours: 36 hours per week.
  • Office based for the first few weeks for training.
  • Basic DBS required.
  • Location: High Street, Esher, Surrey, KT10 9SD, United Kingdom.
  • We work on a bi-weekly schedule.
