Private Sector Housing Officer
East Sussex Council

12-Month Contract (Starting 5th October)
£40-£45 per hour
30-37 hours per week
A local authority in East Sussex is seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to join their team on an initial 12-month contract.
This is an excellent opportunity for an officer with strong housing enforcement and compliance experience who can hit the ground running and support a busy service.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertaking HHSRS inspections and producing associated reports.
- Carrying out mandatory HMO licensing inspections.
- Managing cases relating to the Renters' Rights Act and wider private sector housing legislation.
- Investigating housing compliance issues and taking appropriate enforcement action where necessary.
- Handling a range of additional private sector housing matters including:
- Statutory nuisances
- Electrical Safety Regulations
- Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES)
- General housing standards and compliance work

Requirements
- Previous experience working within Private Sector Housing for a local authority.
- Strong knowledge of HHSRS, housing enforcement, and HMO licensing.
- Ability to manage complex cases independently.
- Experience working at a Senior Officer level is highly desirable, although strong candidates with slightly less senior experience will also be considered.
- Available to work a minimum of 4 days per week, with a preference for 5 days per week (Monday-Friday). Majority will be home working.
- Able to respond to urgent service demands during working days and attend inspections as required.

Contract Details
- 12-month contract
- Start Date: 5th October
- Rate: £40-£45 per hour
- Hours: 30-37 hours per week
- Flexible working available, although regular operational presence within the district is required.
