Chesterfield Borough Council is looking for enthusiastic and customer-focused individuals to join our Private Sector Housing Team.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering housing assistance and Disabled Facilities Grants, helping vulnerable residents access the adaptations and improvements they need to maintain their independence.
About The Role
As a Private Sector Housing Technical Officer, you will work directly with homeowners, private tenants, contractors, and partner organisations to deliver a range of housing improvement initiatives. You will manage a varied caseload and support residents through the entire grant process, from initial assessment through to project completion.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing Disabled Facilities Grant applications
- Undertaking means-tested financial assessments
- Recommending grants and loans for approval
- Monitoring works on site and authorising payments
- Supporting the delivery of housing assistance programmes, including essential home repairs and energy efficiency improvements
- Visiting residents in their homes to assess needs and identify suitable solutions
- Working collaboratively with contractors, occupational therapists, and partner agencies to ensure projects are delivered to a high standard and within agreed timescales

About You
We're looking for an individual who:
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Enjoys working directly with customers and building positive relationships
- Can manage a varied workload and work independently
- Has strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
- Shares our values and commitment to delivering excellent services to residents
- Holds a valid driving licence and has access to a vehicle for business use
