I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Importantly, Mavar has a bookkeeper who handles the day-to-day financial administration. The Treasurer’s role is therefore primarily one of oversight, challenge and advice rather than hands-on bookkeeping.
Mavar is also currently in discussions regarding a potential merger. The Treasurer will have an important role in providing financial input, supporting due diligence and assessing financial risks, liabilities, costs and opportunities.

Experience of mergers would be welcome, but is not a prerequisite. This is therefore a good opportunity for someone with strong financial experience who would like to gain practical experience of mergers in a meaningful charity setting.
Charity finance experience would be valuable but is not essential.
The time commitment is relatively modest, involving Board meetings, liaison with the bookkeeper and advisers, and additional involvement at key stages of the merger process.
