Are you interested in a process/chemical engineering placement with one of the UK’s largest energy producers? We have an exciting industrial placement opportunity at our Markinch Combined Heat and Power plant for a motivated team member with excellent interpersonal skills!
About RWE Generation’s Markinch CHP Station
RWE Generation’s Markinch CHP station is the largest of its type in the UK. The biomass plant exports up to 55 MWe with the ability to export heat to customers, such as our state-of-the-art Energy Centre providing local district heating as part of the Glenrothes Energy Network.
About the Role
- Lead on an engineering project to improve site performance.
- Monitor plant performance through data analysis & interpretation and report it to partners.
- Provide recommendations for improvements, with support from colleagues.
- Implement solutions to optimise asset’s commercial performance.
- Undertake chemical testing as part of process and environmental quality monitoring.
This placement will include project support opportunities, growing your exposure and experience internal and external to the company.
You will attend courses, workshops and on the job training for your personal development.
Job Requirements and Experience
Ideally, the degree you are studying will be Chemical Engineering.
However, if you are studying for a degree in a related subject, and you have an interest in plant performance and optimisation, we would love to hear from you!

Assessment Centre Details
The Assessment Centre will take place on Tuesday 24th November 2026 face to face at DoubleTree by Hilton Swindon, Lydiard Fields, Great Western Way, Swindon, Wilts SN5 8UZ. Accommodation will be booked on your behalf and travel subsidised by RWE. The evening prior to the Assessment Centre a meal will be held at DoubleTree by Hilton which you will be required to attend.
