Scientist / Engineer 1 – Process Chemistry (Life Cycle Assessment)

Salary: £26,939 - £34,939 per annum (dependent on experience)

Employment Type: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract (Maternity Cover)

Location: Sedgefield

About the organisation:

We bring together world-class science, technology and engineering to accelerate the development and commercialisation of innovative products and processes. As part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, we work with industry, academia and government to solve complex challenges and help create a more sustainable future.

Our Process Chemistry team supports the development of sustainable technologies through environmental assessment, process understanding and innovation. We are now looking for a Scientist / Engineer to join our Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) delivery team, supporting projects across a diverse range of products, materials, processes and emerging technologies.

About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to apply their knowledge in a fast-paced research and innovation environment.

You'll be responsible for delivering LCA studies that help our customers and project teams make informed sustainability decisions. Working closely with scientists, engineers and industry partners, you'll develop environmental models, analyse complex datasets and communicate findings that influence the direction of technology development.

The role is predominantly desk-based and would suit someone who enjoys analytical thinking, working with data and translating technical information into meaningful insights. We are open to candidates from a range of backgrounds, including those who have gained significant LCA experience through PhD research, academia or industry.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
