Manufacturing Engineer - Continuous Improvement (Gates Corporate)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer – Continuous Improvement will be responsible for:

  • Developing, improving, and optimising manufacturing processes to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective production
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives, quality enhancement, and the successful introduction of new processes and equipment into production

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Identification, planning, implementation, and documentation of new processes and equipment
  • Driving and implementing a Continuous Improvement culture for the manufacturing facility/business
  • Ensuring all processes comply with and are maintained to current safety standards
  • Identifying and implementing improvements for manual or machine-based processes
  • Developing and maintaining measures of equipment and process performance
  • Supporting training in new processes and equipment
  • Project managing the implementation of new equipment or processes
  • Producing, monitoring, and justifying CAPEX requests
  • Designing small to medium items of equipment, production aids, and tools
  • Identifying and implementing improvements to plant, equipment, and buildings to relevant industry standards and requirements
  • Identifying, selecting, and developing new suppliers/contractors for associated activities
  • Collaboratively exercising judgment to determine adaptations in methods for nonroutine tasks

Key to Success

  • Applies general business knowledge gained through education or past experience
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Assigns tasks to and coordinates work with entry-level engineers, technicians, or administrative staff
  • Ensures quality of personal and team output while adhering to company guidelines and policies

Requirements and Preferred Skills

  • 2–4 years of experience in an Engineer, Process Engineer, or Project Manager role within a manufacturing-facing environment
  • Degree in engineering or a related technical field (e.g. HNC in a relevant Engineering subject) or equivalent work experience
  • A Green Belt qualification in Six Sigma, or equivalent Continuous Improvement certification, would be advantageous
