About the Role
The UK water sector is in a critical phase of transformation and investment as it embraces new technologies, sustainability priorities, and operational innovations. Egis is expanding its Water Business in the UK, and we’re building a high-performing Process Engineering team to ensure we deliver technically robust, sustainable, and forward-thinking treatment solutions—both for municipal and industrial sectors.
This position offers a rare opportunity to join at a pivotal stage of our UK growth, helping to establish, shape, and scale a water and wastewater engineering capability, drawing on:

You will contribute to nationally significant projects, shaping the next chapter of sustainable water and wastewater infrastructure in the UK.
Key Responsibilities

Design & Deliverables:
- Contribute to process design packages across every stage – from feasibility and optioneering through to concept, outline, and detailed design.
- Generate technical deliverables under senior guidance, including:
- Process calculations & mass balances
- Process flow diagrams (PFDs)
- P&IDs (piping and instrumentation diagrams)
- Sketches, datasheets, schedules & application-specific technical notes
- Basis of Design reports
- Develop and assess process flows, hydraulic/process capacity checks, and technological recommendations.

Technical Assurance & Analysis:
- Conduct site visits, asset surveys, and data collection activities, liaising with:
- Operators, vendors, and technology providers.
- Use spreadsheets, process modelling, and simulation tools to support decisions, including:
- Mass balances
- General data analysis
- Output synthesis for feasibility studies and upgrade consultations.

- Collaboration & Safety:
- Work in multidisciplinary teams to align with mechanical, EICA, civil, structural, and architectural design requirements.
- Contribute to safety and compliance studies, such as:
- HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Studies)
- SWIFT (Silver Thread); CDM – safety-by-design; DSEAR (Detailed Safety Engineering and Risk Management);
- HAC/HAP (Hazard Assessment) reviews.
- Help review suppliers and contractors, contribute to commissioning strategies, and ensure technical compliance during handover.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Degree in BEng/MEng (or equivalent) in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field.
- 4+ years’ experience in process design, with a focus on water, wastewater, and/or biosolids/sludge treatment.
- Direct hands-on experience in creating process design deliverables, including:
- Calculations; mass balances; PFDs/P&IDs; and baseline design reports.
- Strong understanding of:
- Water/wastewater treatment processes.
- Process safety protocols.
- CDM (Construction Design & Management); safety-by-design; quality assurance (QA).
- Proven ability to work within multidisciplinary teams, promoting integration between all design streams.
- Good digital competence:
- Proficient in Excel; with process modelling/simulation tools (e.g., BioWin, SUMO, Dynamitsu).
- Willingness to traverse operational plants, construction sites, or supplier facilities as required.
Desirable Additional Skills

Hands-on expertise in specialised sectors, e.g.:
- Wastewater treatment.
- Clean water treatment.
- Biosolids/bioresource management.
- Water reuse/recycling (nutrient recovery, advanced treatment).
- Energy recovery and low-carbon treatment.

Understanding of UK Asset Management Planning (AMP 8), Water Industry National Efficiency Programme (WINEP (2)), Scaling of Reduced Outage (SRO), and frameworks such as D&B or alliance delivery models.

Experience in technical tender support, host contractor/supplier reviews, and commissioning’handover validations.

Professional development progress toward Engineer Technician (EngTech; CMauE) or full Chartered Engineer (ChEng) qualifications with relevant bodies such as the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE).
